Description:
This waterfall is the largest in the Eastern United States; it is well worth your time to visit. There are several different places where you can observe this waterfall; however, it is a very steep descent to the lower levels to view the waterfall.
Options: There are two ways to get here, A) small hike, or B) a longer hike connecting Lower and Upper Whitewater Falls.
A) Small Hike
Directions:Starting from Keowee Lakeshop travel Southwest on HWY 11 until you reach HWY 130. Turn Right. Follow Hwy 130 until you cross into North Carolina and within 0.3 miles of crossing the boarder there will be a sign marking the entrance to “Whitewater Falls.” You will make a right hand turn into the park area. You will be required to pay a $2.00 parking fee. The hike is 0.25 miles to the waterfall on an ash plat and gravel path to an observation deck. B) Longer Hike connecting Lower and Upper Whitewater Falls
Directions: Starting from Keowee Lakeshop travel Southwest on HWY 11 until you reach HWY 130. Turn Right. Follow Hwy 130 until you come to the Bad Creek Project after 10 miles. There will be a gate at the entrance that will open automatically when you enter between 6AM and 6PM. From this gate drive 2.1 until you see a sign that says Foothills Trail. Turn left and follow for 0.2 miles until you reach parking. Begin hiking on foothills blue marker trail. Follow trail until trail splits after you cross second bridge. There will be signs directing to both Lower and Upper Falls. From this point the distance to each falls is about the same, to reach upper falls turn left, and to reach lower falls continue on the blue marker path.
